The project for the RaicamIndustrie S.R.L. in Bruzolo(Torino-Italy) was basically realized in two steps, the first provided only the connection between two existing buildings and the second was the construction of a new building, the new Tech Center, to complement the existing one.
The connection (2013-2015)in steel and plexiglass is a makeover of an industrial building of the fifties.Very organic in its forms,recalls the angular shapes of the mountain ridges chefs from the background of the factory.
The plexiglass enclosure shielded by aluminum sunbreakers creates a particularly favorable microclimate from an energetic point of view. In winter it allows the sun to radiate, in the summer the aluminum screen protects the environment from direct irradiation.The optimization of the usage of natural resources such as the light and the solar irradiation has been the prevailing themes of this work: zenithal light cuts and reflective aluminum structures for transferring the light to the North, main side of the building.
As for the new building (2015-2018), the new Tech Center, the idea was to create a technological-looking object made with prefabricated cement and steel construction techniques typical of an industrial plant of this size. It was therefore necessary to reconcile the architecture with the functionality of the interior spaces, not forgetting the importance of a good thermal and lighting comfort.
The focus of this works is the big Hall, a transparent portal which links up the plant to the landscape and the green spaces through a game of transparencies and reflexes respecting. The conference room is a suspended glass volume rotated 45 degrees compared to the external casing supported by steel tubes with a transparent flooring.
The dark colour puts the building in the background and celebrates the surrounding landscape. Purpose of such work is to create a less alienating working environment and much more related to the human dimension.
Finally, large semitransparent surfaces have been created on the side elevation to highlight the pipelines and technical installations of the building.
