The building at the ´De Heuvelrand´ swimming pool in Voorthuizen, The Netherlands, was designed by Slangen + Koenis Architecten and fitted with a Derako solid wood ceiling system. For this project, the architect chose the linear multi-panel system whereby wooden slats of pine in five different widths are combined into a dynamic pattern. The wooden ceiling gives the building a natural warm look and allows for a direct visual connection to the natural environment which is visible through the large windows.

Within the multi-panel version it was chosen to use additional white painted slats at regular intervals for an extra playful effect. When designing the installation pattern a position light plan was also integrated, whereby different types of fixtures were incorporated into the ceiling.

Durable and practical wooden ceiling for swimming pools

Both the carriers and the wooden slats are specially treated by Derako for pool applications, creating a highly resistant and durable system. By integrating smart access hatches future maintenance work can easily be carried out on the underlying installations.

Realisation of unique ceiling corners

Derako was also involved with the technical design challenges, in which two different curves in the ceiling corners had to be connected to each other. With Derako´s advise the curves in the design were adapted and a flowing and meticulously fitting ceiling was created, whereby the system was also curved to the shape of the window frames.

Excellent teamwork

All carriers were delivered prefabricated. Therefore there was no sawing required on location and the installation was completed quickly and efficiently. The installation contractor provided professional ceiling mounting with pro-active teamwork and in addition complementary shanks were placed behind the ceilings. As for all Derako systems the contractor received a clear installation plan and the carriers had unique codes. As a result the elements were positioned quickly and in the correct order.
