vistamonte, Gossensass/Colle Isarco

This residential building with six units is located on the outskirts of the village of Gossensass/Colle Isarco. The starting point was an existing building which displayed clear signs of decay and dilapidation.

In terms of urban development, the hamlet of Gänsbichl developed along a spur road in the direction of Brenner/Brennero. The development was on the north side, in an area where the terrain rises steeply. In places, the buildings were buried more than one story deep into the earth. On the one hand, this building typology was due to the strong height development, on die other hand, this had practical added values: access to the upper floors was possible without steps and the Brenner wind, which was strong and cold in this area, was directed over the building. This inconspicuous urban characterization was also included in the new building.

The incorporation of the historic orientation and positioning of the building and the choice of only two apartments per story allows for unobstructed views and optimal sunlight for each of the individual apartments. The apartments thus receive 2-3 facades facing the different cardinal directions.

The facade plaster of the existing building has survived for decades and has been given a charming patina with different sand aggregates. This visually appealing feature was used as inspiration for the new facade.
