High-rise mixed-use tower

The Idea  When the clients first approached us, their brief was quite clear. They wanted a distinct design that was functionally innovative. Over further discussions, we envisioned a space that stood apart from the rest in its approach to a 20-storey urban commercial building; the design was to be such that it would bolster productivity and prevent the sense of being cooped up often associated with workplaces. We decided to give the occupants a whole lot of breakout zones that catered to different purposes. Some were cafes and lunchrooms, others were lounges and board rooms. One Ashley Road is Alison Brooks Architects’ landmark project for client, Related Argent, forming the gateway to the Tottenham Hale redevelopment, Heart of Hale. Located near the Walthamstow Wetlands and Lea Valley waterways, the scheme is part of a large-scale transformation of a post-industrial, traffic-dominated transport hub into a characterful, diverse and walkable neighbourhood. The Baiyun Window is located in the core business district of Baiyun New City, Guangzhou, with a height of 130m and a total construction area of 110,000㎡.  In combination with the regional environment, the overall layout is meant to being open to the city. City squares and commercial blocks were designed for the public, with a three-story staircase on the northeast side of the entrance, the sense of ceremony is emphasised. The challenge of building on a sloping corner site became an opportunity for Perkins&Will São Paulo to dare with the horizontal and vertical connections brought by ARQ by You, Inc Vila Mariana. The building consists of two volumes connected by a pedestrian-permeable ground floor. The area maximizes the enjoyment created by active facades along an internal path integrated with the public walkway. With abundant natural ventilation, benches, and flower beds, the ground floor proposes a reinterpretation of a public square, providing shelter from rain for a significant part of its extension. Located at 1001 West Olympic Boulevard, near some of the city’s top entertainment venues, Olympia is a proposed mixed-use, high-rise development in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. SOM collaborated with Patterns in the design of three towers, the tallest of which will reach 65 stories, with two additional towers at 53 and 43 stories. A podium connecting all three will include residences, amenities, retail, restaurants, and parking. RiverSky is a 517-unit condominium project overlooking the Fraser River on the Quay, a growing hub of the New Westminster waterfront.The project consists of two mirroring towers on top of a 6-story retail and parking podium, typical of the Vancouver building typology.
