Bedroom concept floats ‘on cloud nine’

Designed by Studio Gabriel Bordin for the 2019 edition of CASACOR SC, this 40 m2 concept puts forward a materialization of contentment and fulfillment, a feeling ‘being on cloud nine,’ within a contemporary designed setting.

Central to the scheme is the Cloud Bed created by Gabriel Bordin for mattress brand Reveev. The piece differs from a standard bed in that it is purposely designed to close to the ground, to invite relaxation, and serve as a less massive volume within the overall composition. The lower height means the bed can double as a seat within the ‘living sector.’ An usually large backlit panel made of encased coils sets the stage further, suggesting the feeling of floating amongst the clouds.

Light, natural colours with grayscale tones dominate the colour scheme. The RAW White Color by brand Coral is heavily featured, with a few elements in black as focal points. A bay window, parallel to the bed, frames the view but also acts as part of the furniture. The bay window is joined by a Jabuticaba tree on one side and on the other side by Jean Gillon’s Jangada armchair, thus forming a small living room.

Other key furniture pieces are the Julieta chair, by Gustavo Bittencourt; the Caê table, by Fernando Mendes; and, yet another original creation by Gabriel, a folding screen made of sandblasted glass and white metalwork. Some of the artworks include creations by Sérgio Lucena, Ricardo Homem, Henrique Savas, and Sabrina Bordin Sirino. As a fine detail, poems by Yoko Ono can be seen at the bedside, where also lies the architect's grandfather's clock, featured in all his exhibits at the event. The white cabinet, designed to create a "flying" effect, is balanced by the large block of Carrara marble.

"The space was designed to produce as little waste as possible through minimal construction interventions since all amenities are to be removed at the end of the show. The whole furniture is modular, designed and built to easily adapt to other future projects, reducing post-event leftovers", Gabriel Bordin says.

The encased coil wall has become a practical solution by avoiding the construction of a wall, which would last no longer than the 45 days of the exhibition. Moreover, around 75% of these springs can be reused. The architect also chose to leave the ceiling in its original form.
