In Sloterdijk, a neighbourhood to the west of Amsterdam, the new Aidsfonds interior is an inspiring rainbow-colored gathering space imagined by designers Hollandse Nieuwe. A unique organization, Aidsfonds has been making history for 25 years in the fight against AIDS.

In undertaking the design, Hollandse Nieuwe focused on telling the story of Aidsfonds not only by listening to employee experiences but also by actively interning within the office space.

Through this, the designers become intimately aware of the Aidsfonds’ rich archive and company mission. From here, through various co-creation and brainstorming sessions, the designers worked together with Aidsfonds to arrive at several principles for the new working environment that include a graphic translation of their campaign material across multiple spaces.

Colorful and enthusiastic, like Aidsfonds’ campaigns themselves, a range of new functionalities have been introduced into the working environment to enable people to not only excel in their work but also have a quality space in which to spend time with each other. The color palette, developed through extensive color studies, features orange, soft pink, blue and green areas that create different zones and give each space a unique quality.

Selected furnishing develop the color concept further, with items from Hans Lensvelt and special editions of the Maarten Baas collection.

A particular project group focused further on selecting a series of images and campaign materials from Aidsfonds’ history. These images run like a thread through the project and are recreated as thin line drawings that connect different moments of the Aindsfonds’ timeline.

The result is a space where every employee - and every color - can come together.
