The internationally renowned and S&P 500-quoted technology concern 3M is situated at a high visibility location alongside the A13 motorway at Science Park Technopolis Delft next to the Delft University of Technology. The new location fits perfectly with the user as it offers opportunities to exchange knowledge with customers and the innovative companies nearby. The building is designed by architectenbureau cepezed and developed by cepezedprojects and construction company Cordeel. This special development collaboration joined forces to achieve a turn-key implementation, including the financing and realization. The entire process from first contact to delivery took place in an extremely short period of time.
The 3M building has a floor area of ca. 7,428 m² and a striking, clean-cut round design, which generates maximum exposure and can be utilized well as an all-round billboard. It has horizontal articulation with aluminium-clad spandrel panels and panoramic strip windows on all sides. Internally, the building is divided into two semi-circular bays with a transparent roofed atrium in between. The ground floor includes space for a customer technology centre where 3M can present and demonstrate its new and existing products and technologies in a flexible way to a variety of internal and external parties.. The restaurant with a large outdoor terrace is also located on the ground floor. The first floor includes meeting facilities and two modern laboratories for internal research, testing and manufacture of prototypes and technologically high-grade products. On the third and fourth floors there are offices. On every floor in the atrium there are so-called breakout zones with coffee corners. The basement provides closed parking facilities for bicycles and motor vehicles and also has space for building support functions such as a distribution area, storage and changing rooms. The basement is kept out of sight by a green embankment with an integrated louvre wall.
The 3M building is open, transparent and is perfectly fit for flexible and interactive workmethods. Innovative products from the 3M range have also been incorporated. The office is sustainable as well and has received the BREEAM-NL certificate ‘Very Good’. Heating and cooling are regulated via a geothermal heat pump system (WKO). Strategic access via the heart of the building makes it easy to rent out each floor in sections, making the building eminently suitable for multi-tenant use.
