Custom-made for a Kusnacht residence, the don-A is made of a lightweight balsa structure that gives it integral strength yet allows it to remain outstandingly light. The design concept centers around an interplay of soft and hard angles, and is reflected in the naming, a play on don (mister in Spanish) and donna (woman in Italian). Seen in side elevation, the form and silhouette is a similar riff on the archetypal icon for sofa. The straight back creates new combination possibilities for use in hotel lobbies and public spaces, while in private context, placing the don-A against a wall provides a variety of seating options whether on the cushion itself or on the seat back.
