Nature, wood and leaves; these are the main elements that are reflected in the shapes of the new Leaf Collection. From 22nd to 25th September 2016, it can also be seen in London, in the premises of Cubitt House on Stand A9 at the Designjunction Exhibition.

"The collection reflects our vision of trees - a solid foundation topped by delicate leaves. We first adapted these ideas in the form of a chair, consisting of a supporting structure made of solid wood and a seat with a backrest made of optically-lightweight, molded plywood," Gaia Giotto of the designer duo E-ggs, when introducing the concept– the author of this collection. "Apart from the properties of trees, we were also inspired by their shapes. Specifically, by their leaves - whose motif can be found in the cross-section of the backrest," she added. The collection´s development was worked on from 2013 onwards.

Apart from the chairs, the collection also contains a bar version, available in two height variants. The bar-stool is identical to the shape of the chair - but used in the opposite position this time. The rear legs are formed using demanding manual bending techniques. "We visited Bystřice pod Hostýnem, where the whole chair concept arose during the design process, several times. We were fascinated when we saw the actual process - which we had learned about during our school-going years – i.e. the manual bending of solid wood," Gaia confided.

The core point of the set however is the chairs. However, even the table - with its visual effect of a free-floating slab, is – without discussion, an interesting element. Its connection to the chairs is achieved through the curved details on the upper-leg endings. The table is available in two shapes – either a rectangular or circular tabletop.

TON´s Presentation Stand this year was prepared by the designers Jan Plecháč and Henry Wielgus for the Designjunction Exhibition. The central motif, and the motif for their conception, remains the Leaf chairs. "Last year, we won the Best Installation Award at the Designjunction Exhibition. We believe that, this year too, we will be able to address our visitors," said Jan Juza, TON´s Marketing Director, in the way of an invitation at the end.

Presenting the E-ggs Design Studio

The studio was founded in 2012 by Gaia Giotti and Giona Scarselli in Florence. Their work is a cross-section between product design, interior design and architecture. Their attention is directed to unusual phenomena in everyday life and the search for new forms of expression and materials. "When we started to work together, we looked for a name that would synthesize our names - and also contain something that resembled some design concepts. We take “Egg” (from the English) to represent birth; an archetype that is closely linked with every idea and, at the same time, also includes the initials of our names," said Gaia Giotti, explaining the origins of the name.
