The Nanoleaf Gem seamlessly integrates science and technology with art and design. The interior design industry has traditionally favored the warm look and feel of incandescent light bulbs, despite their horrific energy efficiency and short lifespan. Designers have been forced to choose either design or sustainability when selecting light bulbs, which often results in poor efficiency lighting that looks good but is terrible for the planet. The Nanoleaf Gem is the first décor LED bulb that tastefully combines energy efficiency with elegant aesthetics. Featuring a refined frosted white glass body and stunning dodecahedron shape unlike any other bulb today, the Gem resonates as a statement-making eco art piece rather than just another energy-saving light bulb. It is an LED bulb that designers and artists can finally love.

Mirroring the warm look and feel of an incandescent but with the power efficiency of an LED, the Nanoleaf Gem uses less than eight times the energy of a traditional bulb. It is a 40W-equivalent LED bulb that uses only 5W of energy to produce 470 lumens (94 lumens-per-watt) of gorgeous comfortable light. Lasting 30 times longer than a typical incandescent (25,000 hours versus 1,500), the bulb has its own heat dissipation system that eliminates the need for a heat sink and the possibility of damage from overheating. Overheating is one of the main factors that will decrease a bulb’s lifespan; the Nanoleaf Gem’s longevity and efficiency means a substantial amount of energy savings over time. The bulb also cuts down 1,268,000 CO2 emissions over its lifetime and saves 72,000,000 gallons of water (based on 10 bulbs per household for 100 houses).

Considering the lighting industry makes up for 37% of all CO2 emissions in the United States alone, any electrical savings could have a significant impact on the environment. Ideally, everyone would switch to LEDs in order to lower the overall carbon footprint, but adoption has been slow due to factors like harsh light output and undesirable aesthetics. In order to speed up and increase the use of LEDs, Nanoleaf has dug deeper than simply providing energy efficient products – the Gem is a designer-friendly product that makes LED lighting an aesthetically appealing choice rather than a compromise. Officially completed and launched this Earth Day, April 22nd, the Nanoleaf Gem is set to raise the bar on eco-friendly décor lighting, and make the future of art and design that much more sustainable.
