a world leader in connectivity, showcased its Optical LAN Solution (OLS) for the first time in Europe at the Light+Building 2014 show, Hall 4.0, Booth 26. TE Connectivity is a pioneer in elegant interconnects that seamlessly integrate controls and transmit power and data across multiple building systems to enable optimal performance on every level. TE’s advanced OLS was designed based on passive optical network (PON) technology, to meet today’s LAN network challenges such as obsolete cabling infrastructure, space constraints and cooling demands.
TE offers one of the most advanced, high-performance LAN solutions available today. The OLS delivers converged voice, video and data on a single strand of fiber at gigabit speed to each destination. The OLS network’s architecture is capable of delivering data at high bandwidth levels for up to 12 miles (20 kilometers), making it ideal for new construction, 250 or more users, network and infrastructure upgrades, and college campus environments. The new OLS gigabit passive optical network (GPON) architecture uses a strand of single-mode fiber to drive the convergence of high-bandwidth applications from the data center down to the desktop, with virtually unlimited bandwidth and without the need of zone active equipment. GPON’s sophisticated data-encryption capabilities enable a secure information transport system for fiber-to-the-desk (FTTD) solutions. “The Optical LAN Solution ensures the smooth integration of new technologies while enabling the end user to maximize personal efficiencies with one of the greenest data delivery solutions on the market today,” said Luca Rozzoni RCDD, POL/OLS program manager EMEA at TE Broadband Network Solutions. “As a scalable PON solution, OLS helps reduce power consumption and requires less active equipment, resulting in lower operational costs, downtime and maintenance.”
The OLS requires minimum space in a data room, riser closet or conduit. The average space needed for 250 users is just 12 square feet (1.12 square meters). The OLS data travel rates are 2.5 Gbs downstream and 1.25 Gbs upstream. The pre-connected, reduced-bend-radius RapidReel spool allows for fast and precise on-site payouts of up to 500 feet and eliminates the need for additional components such as splice cases, patch panels and mounting hardware. The GPON solutions are efficient, more reliable and provide lower costs for manufacturers.
“TE’s suite of end-to-end connectivity solutions are ideal for indoor and outdoor environmental protection, advanced cable management, and have field-proven performance and reliability,” said Rozzoni. “The fiber does not emit RF energy and meets rigorous quality standards which improve overall customer satisfaction.”
