The Orbicular lamp is a series of table lamps based on how veins form in leaves. Each lamp is a completely one-of-a-kind design 3D-printed in nylon plastic with its own unique form and pattern of veins. The lamps are lit by eco-friendly LED's and cast dramatic branching shadows on the wall and ceiling.
The Orbicular lamp expands on our Hyphae lighting collection by combining our leaf structure inspired technique with a second process that generates the overall form of the lamp shade. The bubbly, globular shapes of hematite and other minerals that grow in a botryoidal habit inspired our sphere aggregation system.
Compared to the Hyphae lamps, the Orbicular exhibits more diversity of structure and pattern as the veins branch and grow across a 3 dimensional surface, the result is more complex, more tree-like. The Orbicular lamp is approximately 10w x 9d x 12h inches in size, although they vary quite a bit since each has a unique form.
About Hyphae Hyphae is a collection of 3D printed artifacts constructed of rhizome-like networks. Inspired by the vein structures that carry fluids through organisms from the leaves of plants to our own circulatory systems, we created a simulation which uses natural growth principles to build sculptural, organic structures. Starting from an initial seed and a surface, we grow a hierarchical network where nodes constantly branch and merge. The densely interconnected structure is at once airy and strong.
Lighting Specifications The lamp comes with a LED light fixture, on/off switch and wall plug. The LED fixture uses 3-watt of energy and produces 200 lumens. It features three bright Cree LED's that will last for 6 years of continuous use. It is UL-listed and works off a 120V or 240V outlet. The light color is neutral white (6000k).
