Ray is our most recent piece. Ray is inspired by the freshness of the sea; ourreference is sea life, in particular the Manta Ray. Our interest in the sea has led us toexamine the asymmetry of animal life and nature. All the shapes and lines areasymmetric as in nature. The idea of the Ray table comes from this. This specialtable is made of three materials and compiled by three craftsmen. Ash wood by acabinet maker, stainless tube by a blacksmith and net cotton fish by a dressmaker. The table top is designed to be simple while hiding the complexity of the layerbelow. It has clean lines but using sea life as a reference, below there is a multilayeredworld. The table top with its different tones and colours is reminiscent ofthe imprint of waves and tides on the sand. Underneath this table top there is abox that slides from side to side. Objects can be placed in the box or in the fish netthat surrounds it. The fish net is cotton and was originally used for fishing. The fishnet envelopes the lower part of the table and moulds itself to the geometry of thepiece. The idea of using this fishing net was inspired by traditional fishing. Thetable top is made of various types of ash wood . The box is made of stainless steelchrome metal. The fishing net is cotton. These are ecological materials. The fins ofthe Ray inspire the table legs. They are made of stainless steel chrome metal aswell. The measurements of this table are 1.75 cm in length and 1.10 cm in width.References: “On Growth and form” by DÁrcy Wentworth Thompson 1917
