Kohti features an elegant silhouette with a compact backrest that flows seamlessly into the armrests. Its sleek lines and smooth joints are crafted from powder-coated steel tubing. Thanks to its refined simplicity, versatility and durability, Kohti easily adapts to a variety of interiors. Its creation draws on the design expertise and meticulous attention to detail developed through our previous projects. The stool embodies the art of transformation through its seat made of recycled plastic, inviting us into an ecological future that values meaningful design and harmony with the environment.
Its name, derived from the Finnish word kohti meaning “towards”, reflects a metaphorical dialogue between two opposing forces – overproduction and sustainability. It leads to the idea of a simultaneous counter-movement: striving to preserve the environment while evolving with it. The world cannot be frozen in an unchanging state; the future will come anyway. So let’s make it beautiful.
The 20 mm thick panel of the seat is made of recycled HDPE (high-density polyethylene) sourced from white and black shampoo bottles. This material is remarkable not only for its recyclability but also for its functional properties: it is non-toxic, UV-resistant, withstands low temperatures and is unaffected by water, acids and alkalis. The process begins with collecting, washing, sorting and shredding the bottles. The granules are then mixed by colour, heated and compressed under pressure to form a smooth sheet. Once solidified, the plate is cut to shape on a CNC machine, and the seat is ready.
