Treasure Collection” is a continuous design project that uses only natural and organic materials, made and sourced in Britain wherever possible. It is an exploration of employing different forms of traditional arts and crafts to create contemporary and timeless objects. “Tran” consists of a sofa and a stool/ low table, which was born out of the desire to create an honest, handcrafted, beautiful, high quality and eco-friendly sofa, produced from British made natural and organic materials: A rustic and environmentally friendly 21st century furniture. It is an exploration of the ancient craft of hand weaving by mixing various natural and organic materials to create a rough textured, durable and beautifully crafted seat and back surface. Materials used include: Precious British vegetable tanned saddle leather, natural flax twine, bespoke braided organic jute cord, twisted eco paper cord and beautifully soft organic hand spun Shetland wool yarn. All the weaving materials are produced by British traditional manufacturers, most of them trading for more than 120 years. Studio180° used FSC certified British oak to build the chunky frame without using any screws, the joints are bonded with eco glue and finished with natural oils. “We used the centuries-old technique of making wood threads by hand to fix the cylindrical wood turned modernistic feet onto the frame. This allows for an easy disassembling when space should be an issue when moving home.” The luxurious accessories for “Tran” like the high-quality seat mattress are hand-crafted from biodegradable, precious natural and organic materials.
