One of the few comfortable chairs designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld for Metz en Co, 1935. This chair is special cause it's the first upholstered chair designed by Rietveld. This was executed by Metz & Co, the wooden frame was built by Gerard van den Groenekan and the upholstery was done by Dhr. Staphorst. This chair was produced sold by Metz & Co from 1935 to 1975. This example was bought in the beginning of the 1970s and has original orange terracotta color terry fabric. This was not used too much and that's why the condition is still amazing!
This chair was ordered by architect Cees Dam by Metz & Co in 1971. Cees also build the town hall in Almere where the Utrecht Cassina models were presented. This chair is one of the latest Metz & Co productions as this was not popular anymore in the 1970s.
This chair will be presented at the National Art Deco and Design fair in Den Haag, 14-17 may 2015. Where we will exhibit with our - 3 x Rietveld - exhibition.
