The interior renovation project in the Cikajang area, South Jakarta. Started from the client’s desire to create a fine-dining restaurant with the Omakase concept which is “food consisting of chef’s choice of dishes”. Located in an area filled with restaurants, this is a challenge for architects.

Also with the site of the project which is a rental house, the most significant difficulty is how to be able to restore the condition of the house after the restaurant rental period ends. So there is no change in the spaces in the residence. What they do is adapt these rooms into spaces that suitable for fine-dining restaurants.

The restaurant’s interior is inspired by Junichiro Tanizaki’s essay titled In Praise of Shadow which talks about the culinary experience of “pleasure of mystery eating”. Km0studio tries to interpret the main elements of this concept, namely the dim atmosphere and the presence of golden light into the 71st Omakase in the form of interior elements.

It can be seen from the facade of the building that is made as mute as possible by not displaying signage except the 71st logo on the front facade. Distinguished itself from restaurants in general.

The dimlight atmosphere itself can be sensed since the beginning after entering the front door to the bar area, which made as dark as possible. The only element that guides the visitors to the bar area from the front is the golden stripes element. So, the visitors are expected to feel the mysterious atmosphere and able to fully concentrate on the taste of food that will be provided personally by the chef with a zen garden at the end of the corridor as the nale of this culinary experience.

While the Omakase concept implemented in the main room of the restaurant as a bar that surrounds the open kitchen, so visitors can see resthand what is being cooked by the chef, and the chef can interact directly with the customer.
