A House behind a Wall

A small house in the quiet open countryside of the Po Valley south of Milan. The long, flat volume emphasizes uninterrupted views towards the horizon under the wide sky of the flat landscape. Its geometry gives every room vistas over the fields to the mountains and echoes the shape of the nearby old farmhouse on the same site. Beneath the inclined roof, white walls and terracotta floors provide a simple backdrop for the owner’s collection of antique and classic modern furniture.

Only the outer walls of the old house could be preserved to act as a screen towards the road. This wall will be complemented by a pergola that will be covered with plants, creating a romantic scene for the new house.

The house’s materials are rooted in the rural context: terracotta floors, reclaimed tiles on the roof, copper details and concrete walls coloured in tones matching the village. Designed by Ferrarrantischnell for Moretti MORE, the prefab concrete construction embraces sustainability with an energy concept by Zeropositivo Architetti.
