Oxana Mazurina, founder of Mazurinadesign, met the owners through a mutual friend. The couple had three sons and they were expecting their fourth child, a girl. Now they have 5 kids (the fifth one is a girl too). The head of the family is an architect by education, so he took a more active part in the design and construction of the house than usual.

The couple wanted a neoclassical design. They asked the design team to use natural parquet – a warm and tactile material – including in the kitchen, since the children spent a lot of time playing on the floor, running barefoot and being with their mother while she cooks. The interior spaces had to be very light, with clear tones, and cozy.
“The renovation was in full swing when our client received an invitation to move to the capital of the country, Astana, due to a promotion,” the designer remembers. “The whole family followed him and we had to suspend all work for 4 years. When the clients returned to Almaty, the couple had another child, which implied doing some changes in the layout. For example, the office on the second floor was transformed into the youngest daughter's bedroom and the guest bedroom on the first floor became a space for the husband's parents.

“The most difficult stage of the work was to go back to the roots, raise the design documentation, shopping lists, sort out an entire warehouse with previously purchased tiles, faucets, kitchen furniture, and update all the information on the project,” the designer confesses. “In more than 4 years, much has changed – in the world in general and in my clients’ tastes. I suggested simplifying everything with the help of modern furniture elements and decor.”

Soft colors like gray, beige, pure white and touches of green prevail in the different spaces. Bathed in natural light and designed for connection, this Scandi-inspired home with neoclassical touches reimagines classic elegance with a modern, livable edge—ideal for a vibrant family. The design strikes a graceful balance between creativity and practicality, making every space feel both refined and relaxed.
