Project aims to economically develop the Arctic region. Key requirements for Arctic settlements include:
— transportation accessibility;
— connection to the mainland;
— convenient housing locations;
— fast cargo delivery;
— availability of leisure and sports facilities;
— a comfortable indoor climate.
An example route between Arkhangelsk and Pevek (5,400 km) along the Arctic Ocean illustrates possible development paths for the region.
Base Camp of Dome Modules
The camp is designed for 30-50 people and consists of dome modules with a radius of 6 meters, an area of 111.2 square meters, and a height of 5 meters. The modules can be joined together to create various configurations. The basic module type is triangular cells on hexagonal metal frames. The cells are hermetically sealed and assembled without the use of special equipment. The service life is 10 years. The modules are installed on compacted soil or on supporting frame cells. A standard module contains 75 cells, which can be replaced with an entrance vestibule if necessary. The maximum cell size allows for transportation in 20-foot containers: 45 cells per container, 225 cells in 5 containers (3 modules).
Each cell consists of an aluminum frame with a two-chamber container made of transparent ETFE film filled with nitrogen. The frame's double-chamber design prevents freezing. An integrated internal polyurethane foam frame simplifies installation.
Cell requirements: operation at temperatures down to -60°C outside and +18°C inside, wind load up to 50 m/s with humidity up to 100%, adjustable light penetration.
Bioclimatic Module
Translucent film module with a controlled climate, autonomous power supply, and residential functionality. The radial layout is optimal for the dome, efficiently utilizing space across three levels. Designed for 110 residents, it offers private and public spaces. A natural microclimate and sustainable ecosystem are created inside, perfect for life in the far north and the polar night. Staff can grow fruits and vegetables, creating the illusion of a familiar climate. Public areas simulate the changing seasons. A compact "warm contour" reduces temperature maintenance costs. Social connections and long-term use without obsolescence are fostered. An "internal oasis" in the center of the module ensures an optimal climate and contact with nature.
Large modular complex – "Arctic City"
Capacity for up to 1,500 people, the complex is completely self-sufficient thanks to wind turbines and greenhouses. It consists of standard cells and frame elements covering an area of 49,600 square meters. It includes living quarters, work areas, storage areas, greenhouses, recreation areas, and repair areas.
Each module has its own entrance and vestibule. A shared greenhouse and 80 local greenhouses on four levels provide vegetables for all residents. Walkways between modules are located on floors one and two, with ground-level entrances. Access to covered parking (15 spaces, 11 x 3 m) is provided, with a direct connection to the service area.
Autonomous utility systems include sewage treatment and solid waste disposal. A water purification system from open and underground sources provides the water supply. The complex does not affect permafrost and has a service life of up to 30 years.
All modules are integrated into a closed system with an internal microclimate, allowing residents to work and live within the system without leaving.
