The architectural studio AI-architects designed this office in Moscow for a private company. The team consists of five full-time employees and a leader; partners and clients come to the office. The main task of the architects was to quickly turn a concrete box without finishing with an area of 127 m2 into a convenient office where you can invite partners. The result is a concise and expressive author's interior.
“Our main design decision here is to leave everything that is, and not do too much. The customer wanted to finish as quickly as possible and move into a new office. We emphasized the natural beauty of concrete partitions and ceilings: the walls and ceiling were only varnished to accentuate the texture of concrete and make the material safe. Varnish protects concrete from almost any kind of external influences, making the construction of it more durable,” said Ivan Kolmanok, co-founder of ai-architects.With the help of glass blocks, the space was divided into three zones: a working space, a spacious director's office, and a small meeting room. Thus, architects avoided lengthy walling and visually diluted heavy concrete with light-transmitting glass.
When the space is made of concrete and glass, inevitably a loud echo violating acoustic comfort, unless, of course, at the stage of the design project we take care of high-quality sound insulation. In this office, acoustic panels hid behind images on an industrial theme in the work area and a large meeting room.
Three rectangular tables made of oak slabs were placed in the working area. “There are no drawers and cabinets as is customary in the office: it is important not to extinguish the light falling from high windows to the floor, otherwise the meaning of large windows is lost,” said Ivan Kolmanok, partner at AI-architects, about the peculiarities of the working area. The storage function is performed by shelves built into the glass blocks: books and documents are placed there.
The office of the General Director, he is also a large meeting room, a place for receiving customers and partners. A library is compactly built into one of the walls. Furniture in rich red upholstery became a bright accent, armchairs and two sofas complete the confident image of a stylish office for financiers.
