The building is located within a production/artisan sector located on the outskirts of the town of Gonzaga, south of Mantua.
The intervention was designed to meet the needs of a historical family-run business for the production of elegant knitwear, entirely made in Italy, well-established in the municipal area since the 1970s. The demand for new spaces in terms of area was also combined with the need to give the workplaces a look consistent with the type of product made by the company, sober and classical, but at the same time designed with attention to detail.
From a layout point of view, the building has two main parts: an uninterrupted production area with two side by side ribbon openings and mainly overhead light that provides constant natural lighting; an office zone that faces the access road to the building and that constitutes one of the most evocative fronts.
The exteriors of the building are marked by the strength and purity of the concrete, which dominates both the vertical and horizontal surfaces. They evoke the industrial nature of the structure, while at the same time conceptualising and ennobling it, making the building an architectural object endowed with its own dignity and personality.
The concrete also includes the contrast of the profiles of the window frames and the corten-coloured painted sheet metal of the adjustable sunshades, whose colour is also invoked by natural elements in the flowerbeds at the front entrance.
The interior is based on the same concept but welcoming, where the homogeneous surfaces of the concrete floor interact with the white tones of the walls and furnishing elements illuminated by the light coming from the large windows. The entrance in particular is marked by a skylight that enunciates the actions of entering and waiting, and by a window that frames the samples room, the venue where the collections are exhibited and the official presentations of the company are made.
