Located in Konak, facing St. Polycarp Church and its green urban setting, the Akbank İzmir Private Banking Project establishes a spatial dialogue with the surrounding public realm while creating a controlled and private banking environment.
The design is inspired by the atrium-centered spatial organization of ancient Pompeian houses. Reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, the atrium becomes the heart of the project, organizing circulation, social interaction, and visual continuity. Visitors enter through a compressed corridor that gradually leads into a double-height central space, creating a sequence of spatial compression and expansion reminiscent of an interior plaza.
Meeting rooms, executive offices, operational units, and lounge areas are arranged around the atrium, reinforcing its role as a collective focal point. The ground-floor terrazzo flooring extends the perception of the exterior into the interior, while double-height timber surfaces define the central volume and strengthen spatial orientation.
Artworks, carefully integrated throughout the project, enrich the user experience and contribute to the identity of the space. A landscaped buffer between the street and visitor areas enhances privacy while maintaining visual depth.
Combining the spatial memory of historical atrium houses with the functional requirements of contemporary banking, the project proposes a calm, refined, and representative environment that balances public and private realms through a cohesive architectural language.
