Our client and her partner came to Moontower interested in making individualized spaces for each of them without having to uproot from the property and neighborhood they love. During the design process they separated so the independent spaces became a necessity instead of a nice to have. With individual living spaces situated on a shared property this unique two unit site plan worked for them and has since gone on to thrive as a rental property.

The solution was an 1,100sf back house with side street access that features a compact 2-story design to maximize yard space. The tall, varied ceiling types, and yellow pine accents (coming from exposed 2nd floor beams) provide interest throughout. The white stucco walls of the gable structure feature strategically placed windows that function with balanced symmetry from the exterior and which work to provide select views and balanced natural light inside. In collaboration with the homeowner Moontower created a the two bedroom, two bath casita full of one-of-a-kind vintage finds like the massive range in the kitchen, and the blue reclaimed sink from the 50s featured in the downstairs bathroom.
