Anna22 Café & Deli – an oasis in the bistro spirit in the centre of Helsinki
Anna22 is an idyllic and relaxed deli café, right in the heart of Helsinki. The café offers high-quality delicacies made on the premises for enjoyment on the spot or for take away. The menu focuses on good raw ingredients and healthy nutrition. The goal is to create a pleasant and cordial café that’s a blend of Scandinavian design and central European bistro atmosphere. The splendid form of the premises was utilized as well as possible in this solution, not to mention the natural light that streams in from the windows, which adds to the views indoors and out. The premises functioned previously as a clothing shop and the transformation into a café required a new kitchen as well as the construction of WC facilities. The narrowness of the premises imposed challenges on customer circulation, seating comfort and product display. On the other hand, height combined with narrowness makes the facilities impressive and fascinating. The special formats existing in the premises were used to advantage: the windowsills of the façade as well as the demolished tile stove recess were modified to function as seating. The restaurant has received a very warm reception! The desired atmosphere is made up of functional space arrangements, carefully selected materials and spot lighting. Customer seating and corridor space are separated by means of the floor materials: the flooring in the customer seating area is oak plank set in a herringbone pattern, and in the corridor there is a ceramic floor differentiated by a heart pattern – the café logo. The floor materials continue in the service counter and vertical background wall surfaces. The restaurant logo is painted on acoustic panels made of peat on the walls of the main room and can also be seen from the outside.
