Apartamento em Braga

Correia/Ragazzi arquitectos as Architects

The clients owned two separate apartments that they intended to remodel and transform into one duplex apartment that better met their family needs.

We’ve defined the intervention by creating a social floor, the lower floor, consisting on a kitchen, laundry, living-room, terrace and guests suite. To the upper floor remained the more private areas of the house: three suits, one for the parents and another for each child.

The union of both apartments and, subsequently, of the house, was achieved by the introduction of a two-storey high hall with the access stair, designed as a focal piece that distributes the program. The stair also defines a balcony on the upper floor with a view over the lower floor. The entire apartment was designed taking into consideration the characteristics of the materials that were chosen to create a game of volumes, light and dark. We’ve chosen light coloured walls, however high in texture, finished in microcement. Panels, doors, wardrobes of darker colour, made of black Valchromat. The lower floor, the social one, is united by its pavement in hand-made hydraulic mosaic, in a pattern that introduces texture and three dimensionality, studied according to the scale of the compartments, and specially produced. At the upper floor one finds wood pavement except on the wet areas.
