AFRIKArchi announces the results of the 1st edition of his ARCHIGINEER AFRICA Competition, and talks about its exhibition

The ARCHIGINEER AFRICA Competition is an annual event. It is born with the will shared by AFRIKArchi to develop the teaching of Architecture, Town planning and Civil Engineering in Africa. Our goal through this major project is to encourage, stimulate and reward the creativity and inventiveness of African talent of today and tomorrow, with a view to developing the African continent.

This competition is free and open to students enrolled in architecture, town planning and civil engineering schools, universities or polytechnics, located in Africa. It was also open to young professionals, graduated in 2012. Participants had the opportunity to participate alone, or in teams of up to four people.

For this first edition, the chosen theme was " Collective housing in Africa urban areas ", responding to a real and present problem on the African continent. The competition was launched on 1st October 2012 and closed on December 31st, 2012.

We registered for this first edition, more than 1000 participants enrolled in more than 80 African schools, universities and polytechnics, from more 30 countries across Africa.

These statistics have exceeded our expectations. They also demonstrated a willingness of students to cultivate a spirit of challenge, to advance architecture, town planning, civil engineering as major development challenges in Africa. Participants were both from the Maghreb and the Sub-saharan Africa, also french and english speaking countries.

To evaluate the projects, AFRIKArchi have gathered an international and multidisciplinary jury, bringing together architects, town planners, engineers, experts in colletive housing, sociologists, historians ... and chaired by the architect and town planner, Mahmoud Keldi, of comorian origin.

The jury deliberation took place on 1st February 2013 at Architecture and Heritage City, Palais Chaillot in Paris. Following the deliberation, three prizewinners were chosen, and several projects have also been selected to participate in the ARCHIGINEER AFRICA International Exhibition, which runs from March 2013 in several cities in Africa and in the world such as Alger (to be confirmed) Bamako, Casablanca, Cotonou, Kumasi, Lomé, London (to be confirmed), New York (to be confirmed), Paris, Tokyo (to be confirmed), Tunis, Uberlandia in Brazil ...
