ATHLETES’ VILLAGE 2030

Following its contribution to the Paris 2024 Games, PPX Architectes will continue its work on the legacy of major sporting events through the development of the Athletes’ Village in Saint-Jean-de-Sixt for the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Winners of the competition, the consortium led by Bouygues Immobilier, with PPX Architectes as lead architect, alongside Acarne Architectes, ADP Paysage and Atelier LJN, will deliver a major urban, landscape and architectural project at the heart of the Aravis Mountain range.

Located at the entrance to Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, on the site of a former campsite and holiday center along Route du Crêt, the project will accommodate more than 14,000 sq m of floor area. It will host nearly 1,000 athletes during the Games before transforming into a new 75-home-hamlet, a hotel, a holiday center, a multi-purpose facility, as well as public and landscaped spaces.

Mountain Legacy

The project draws inspiration from traditional Alpine villages, in dialogue with the landscape, views and scale of the site.

The buildings are conceived as a collection of compact volumes, drawing on the scale and character of traditional Alpine hamlets. Carefully positioned along the slope, they sit naturally within the landscape, minimising earthworks while preserving views across the surrounding mountains.

The architecture draws on local building traditions, combining mineral bases, prefabricated timber façades and steeply pitched roofs finished with flat tiles. These traditional materials and forms are reinterpreted in a contemporary and understated way, rooted in the local landscape while meeting today’s standards of comfort and performance.

An Olympic Hamlet

The Athletes’ Village is designed from the outset to transition seamlessly to its long-term use, with minimal alterations after the Games.

The structures, façades, main infrastructure and public spaces will remain in place throughout both phases of the project. The accommodation will be adapted to its permanent use through limited interventions, reducing the need for extensive conversion works and the resources they would require.

More than a temporary Olympic facility, the project will become a new hamlet, contributing to the long-term development of Saint-Jean-de-Sixt while remaining rooted in the architectural and landscape identity of the Aravis mountain range.
