Baby Ruth

Clients: When we met the homeowners Katie and Eric for the first time, we couldn't help but take note of their busy lives with two kids and three dogs. This young family was bursting at the seams living in the original 1950's house on this property (900 sqft, 2 bed one bath).

Details Located on Ruth Ave in the neighborhood of Crestview in Austin TX, this tiny 450 sqft new build is loaded with big features. From its soaring cedar cladded ceilings, abundant natural light and its one of a kind bathroom, this 450 sqft dream checks all of our client's needs. On the outside, you'll find plenty of nods to mid century in features like the low slung roof planes and tapered brick facade. We were sure to sprinkle in some new ideas to our strong mid century lines, like the exposed tapered rafter tails set against cedar eave soffit. On the inside, you'll find soaring ceilings, durable concrete floors, tons of natural light and a mini split HVAC unit to keep you cool during those hot Texas summers. The crown jewel is the full sized bathroom. It features a clawfoot tub with a shower feature set against a cedar clad wall that waterfalls from the ceiling. The encaustic cement tile floor is the perfect pop of pattern and color for this tiny oasis.

Inspiration: Katie is an antiques picker with a keen eye for mid century finds. Both her and Eric have a tendency toward the eclectic and creative side. we had to bring our A game for this unique new build. Having an enormous lot, the priority was to have space where he could work from home, she could craft, they could have movie night, the kids could play and learn music and generally one could go and relax.
