BAR-BA-

A bar located behind a Japanese restaurant in Kita-Senju, Adachi-ku.

Passing through a narrow pathway extending from the street and into the backyard of Itagaki Japanese Restaurant, a renovated old private house, you will find a small bar with only six seats. It is so quiet and secluded that you may forget you are in the bustling Kitasenju area.

Inside, the walls, ceiling, and fixtures are plastered with a rough texture. In addition, the presence of lighting has been eliminated through the use of specially fabricated φ35 ultra-compact downlights. By matching the materials and textures used for the interior, we have created a space that feels like being in a cave. The seating area is connected to the garden by an earthen floor, allowing visitors to feel the ground up close and smell the plants and trees.

In the courtyard, "silent screenings" of short movies with headphones are held regularly. For this event, designed to be enjoyed in a residential area, headphone racks were installed on all the walls of the store. The racks, made entirely of copper, create a sense of unity with the plastered-in space while giving off an alien presence.

The bar, which is connected to the garden through sliding glass doors, will offer a pleasant evening experience with the bustle of a small but new neighborhood.
