Bluefin Fish Processing Industry is an on-going consultancy project for Sankalpana Design Consultant Pvt. Ltd. The Site is located in Taloja, Mumbai, where sustainability features are to be incorporated to the planning of the project. Suggested features are rain water harvesting, solar water heating, lighting analysis, and other sustainable measures.
As roof collects lot of rain water during rainy season, about 6 lakhs litres per season, it could be used for the domestic purposes of workers. So as suggested the collected water can be harvested, filtered and transferred to the overhead tank. The collected water in one season will be sufficient for the workers for 4 months. So a lot of water as well as money can be saved. Surface runoff water can be diverted towards plantation minimizing the requirement of water.
Water is required to generate steam for processing purposes. Diesel boilers are used to generate steam. We tried to minimize the diesel consumption by adding solar water heating system in between before water is transferred for steam generation. Up to 80oC of water can be generated from solar water heater, which can further transferred to boiler. Now temperature has to be raised from 80oC to 100oC. Thus, it saves lot of energy and fossil fuel.
Artificial lighting analysis is done to optimize the number of lights, layout of lights, types of lights and energy consumption of lights in the factory.
Other sustainable measures are incorporated to minimize consumption of water and generation of waste. Trees are planted in the western direction to obstruct the site from evening intense sunlight.
