Boithokkhana is a simple, minimalist kitchen pavilion designed to centre a traditional bari - a shared rural homestead where five brothers and their families live. Acting as the heart of the property, the structure provides a dedicated space where the different daily routines of the individual households can come together. Designed for occasional family events, it comfortably hosts shared meals, important meetings, and evening adda (informal conversations) without disturbing the privacy of the five independent homes. The design balances the strict budget of rural construction with long-lasting strength, using a simple, load-bearing brick masonry core covered entirely in a smooth, easy-to-clean plaster finish. 

To balance a comfortable human scale with heavy practical needs, the building's height starts at a familiar ten-foot level before sweeping smoothly upward. This deliberate increase in ceiling height does two important jobs. First, it easily clears out the intense heat and smoke created by large-scale traditional cooking. Second, it creates a tall, airy, and comfortable atmosphere for the family gathering hall. Because the building serves these two very different purposes, its overall form clearly splits into two parts. The kitchen is designed as a solid, enclosed box to safely contain the demanding work of food preparation. Right next to it, the gathering space becomes a highly open pavilion. Without solid walls on three of its sides, this shared hall invites the quiet rural landscape and constant natural breezes directly into the building. 

A v-shaped butterfly roof tops the pavilion, shaped directly by the local climate and sun paths. The kitchen roof slopes upward to catch maximum sunlight for future solar panels, while the gathering hall roof slopes downward to provide deep, cooling shade for the family sitting below. Where these two different roof slopes meet in the middle, they form a natural channel for collecting rainwater. By planting lush greenery right inside this central drainage line, the architecture creates a clever visual trick. What is actually one single connected building looks like two separate structures resting quietly in the landscape. This green divide acts as a beautiful symbol for the family itself, representing independent lives that remain deeply connected at their roots.
