The studio was commissioned to create a new world-wide identity for the Bucherer multi-brand stores. The project, which involves redefining certain aspects of the external and internal architecture, aims to establish a common language with the capacity to integrate seamlessly with the stylistic variations of the genius loci.
Wanting to provide Bucherer with a concept that would adopt an unorthodox approach to the retail activity of the store, the studio has created spaces with stylistic codes that are instantly recognizable as belonging to the Swiss brand but which at the same time are able to dialogue with the other high-end watchmaker brands present in the stores.
The Bucherer St. Moritz Store
The St. Moritz store is the second project developed by Lissoni & Partners and follows on from that for the pilot store in Basle. The intent remains that of finding a balance between a contemporary interpretation of local culture and the company identity.
The façade was brought back to its original appearance through the use of stucco typical of the buildings in St. Moritz’s old town and of Engadin vernacular architecture. The same material is used on the internal walls alternated with boiserie and niches in dark wood, while a stone that is aesthetically consistent with Alpine granite was used for the floor.
As with the Basel store, it was crucial to restore a level of visibility between the interior and exterior, achieved here through enlarging the perimetral frame in burnished brass, while the same concept was used also for the window showcases containing the timepieces and jewelry, which were conceived as suspended elements that stand out against the weave of slim metal tubes, generating an enticing visual permeability.
Some of the architectural elements were inspired by the local domestic vernacular, such as the wood bookcase and the fireplace, while the styling project takes a slightly ironic approach with the insertion of objects with clear references to mountain culture. The table at the entrance was custom made and instead recalls the sinuous forms of a river stone.
