The Barreiros Association is a non-profit institution, private, that serves students of public schools in Ilhabela, a town placed in an island, seaside in the southeast of Brazil, in the turn of classes, aiming to contribute to the formation of conscious citizens, socially integrated and prepared for the plein the exercise of their citizenship. It seeks to promote a reflective and inclusive education, linking learning and life.
In June 2019 we were invited to design the reform of the Association's cafeteria and to create a contiguous space that had the function ofrecreational space and coexistence, especially for rainy days, and at the same time could be used for various events.The place is surrounded by lush nature, a beautiful garden and has the sea in front of you.
The project seeks to integratethe interior structure to its exterior space and this nature, either by the large glazed wall, or by the aluminum brises that give a subtle transparency when they are closed, but that, when opened, give the space the characteristic of a large varanda.In the living area there is no closing with glass and the wall at the bottom of the construction does not touch the roof, allowing constant ventilation and ensuring thermal comfort to the environment.
The glass skylights on the ceiling provide the entrance of natural light and their design seeks to create a "joke" in the lining and uniformity in luminosity.
In the living room the only furniture is upholstered modules that allow various configurations of use and low cabinets with caster that guard materiais for games such as balls, hula bolus and jump ropes.A huge bench in autoclaved pine deck and metal wave-shaped structure can be used in internal activities, but also for the contemplation of nature and the sea.
The structure is metallic, lightweight material, durable and that does not generate residues in the work, as well as the solution adopted for the roof, in PVC blanket on naval plywood boards and EPS, a system that, in addition to the characteristics mentioned above, provides an optimal thermal insulationand has low maintenance over time.
In the semi-industrial kitchen we try to maintain this relationship with the exterior, large windows do this function while using materials suitable for use such as stainless steel countertops and furniture, technical floor extruded ceramics, floor grilles with waste basket among others.The lining of the eaves is autoclaved pine, material from forest planting, of high resistance to pests and termites.
