Located in Tumbaco, one of the agricultural traditional towns of Quito, which has been colonized during decades by the upper middle class of the capital city, which seeks for the paradigmatic countryside lifestyle, as well as the spring-like weather that this valley can offer, due to the 500m of altitude difference, less than the plateau of Quito.

The land is part of a fragmentation of what was once a family land, now divided into lots of around 800 m² each. The land lot that we were assigned to work on, was full of adult fruit trees, mainly Ice Cream Beans; a typical species of the area. 

The proposal, offers a solution on a single story, where a regular structural steel-framed system, incorporates the Ice Cream Beans into the project, throughout several patios, that result from this modulation. The service areas are also part of this grid, with flat concrete roof slabs and for the living spaces and metal shed-like roofs. These, open up to different orientations; to capture the sun or avoid it, depending on the needs of each space below them

The construction system of steel porticos and metal roofs is complemented by solid handmade brick masonry at its lower level, and the triangles that result from the roofs’ angles, are covered sideways, with folded metal sheets. 

The program is divided into two areas: a wing for a couple and two children: three bedrooms, a TV room and two bathrooms, and a Second wing, with a guest area and a studio, joined by a large social area.

It is a house resolved on a single level, with a system of patios that integrate exterior with interior all around, incorporating an entirely efficient construction system that generates top quality spaces at low costs.
