An architectural design that relies on the strength of horizontal planes to create shade, comfort, and a commanding presence. At the client's request, we designed a home for extended family stays at the beach, intended to host numerous friends on weekends. The living area features an open-plan layout with split-level transitions and double-height ceilings, incorporating natural materials such as stone and wood.

The design features well-defined volumes: exposed concrete provides the structure, natural stone anchors the building, and wood adds warmth, striking a precise balance between solidity and lightness. Achieving the right mix for the dark exposed concrete posed an engineering challenge; we sought a texture distinct from the conventional to lend originality and personality to the project, resulting in a slight construction delay due to the necessary testing and trials prior to the actual concrete pouring. The structure utilizes conventional reinforced concrete and double-masonry walls for superior thermal and acoustic insulation, along with ribbed slabs, reinforced concrete columns, and a concealed metal roof with thermal-acoustic protection. Regarding materials, in addition to exposed concrete, we used natural wood for details, brise-soleil elements, flooring, and the staircase; Portuguese stone paving for walkways, the garage, access points, and gardens; rustic *moledo* stone on select interior and exterior walls; and metal accents.

Integration with the outdoors is seamless, featuring large openings, generous verandas, and a gourmet area connected to the garden and water features. The upper level houses the private quarters—including a kitchenette and linen closet—serving five suites, with the master suite standing out for its lake view. The staircase serves as a focal point, positioned above an indoor garden that integrates nature into the design and improves the home's internal microclimate. An elevator provides vertical access between the two floors, ensuring accessibility. A wooden bench on the outdoor balcony enhances the building's form while fostering a connection between the user, the architecture, and the façade's greenery. This is a project that values ​​proportion, materiality, and enduring quality.
