The Chess Residence is an Interior Design project for a young family in Hillsborough, California.
The home was built in the 1960s, has 4 bedrooms and 3-1/2 baths and is situated amongst a group of old oak trees on a sloping lot of 0.7 acres.
One of the main features of the home are the numerous floor to ceiling windows that frame a group of oak trees and allow a soft green light to permeate the entire space.
In order to maximize the natural lighting in the space and to not distract from the treetops that are framed by the windows, we simplified the layout of the space and used an understated, yet elegant and modern color and furniture palette that enhances the existing setting rather than competing with it.
Every aspect of the spaces, from the light fixtures to the furniture and down to cushions and artwork was carefully selected and incorporated into the spatial arrangement by nottoscale in order to create a holistic design experience that merges the character of the site and the existing house with a distinctively modern, yet subtle design.
