Ciné Feurs

The new cinema of Feurs is installed in the park of the municipal swimming pool, in contact with the departmental road 107 which comes directly from the city center. Perpendicular to the slope of the ground, it rushes towards the city center while providing a long entrance and presentation facade to the street and the parking lot.

The work begins with a typological interrogation. What form, what image, what expression or identity should a cinema contain? How to deal with the imagination and the codes of cinema as a building to produce an architecture that makes sense? How to make the experience of space accompany that of the film?

The question of the name that signals, the porch that welcomes the public, the ticket office and candy store, the enhancement of movie posters, are all elements that contribute to the identity of a cinema.

The building looks like a dark mineral monolith. On the slope side, it is strongly anchored in the ground. On the city side, it takes off to welcome the public. The openings in the volume define the recessed route from the entrance porch to the room.

The single, uniform and black materiality refers to the object that produces cinema, the machine that produces the image, the camera. We dive into darkness to watch the film.
