Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy

In April 2017 the Karl-Jaspers-Klinik opened the new building in the Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy in Westerstede. The building is situated on the grounds of the Ammerland-Klinik and is operated by the Karl-Jaspers-Klinik in cooperation with the Bundeswehr. The new buildings characteristics are the curved outlines of the two-storey cubature and the light sandstone colour of the exposed masonry. The concept of the interior design picks up the curved formal vocabulary of the cubature and transfers it into the interior decoration of the rooms.

The ground floor locates general areas such as rooms for physicians, psychologists and for therapy as well as central zones for storage and technical infrastructure. The generously dimensioned stairs lead to the wards in the upper storey and illustrates with its curves the buildings embedded context with nature. The first floor locates the wards for standard and superior benefit with a total of 45 beds.

The concept of the interior design picks up the main features of the architectural concept and transfers them into the decoration of the interior. On the one hand the curved formal vocabulary is being used and on the other hand the feature of a non stigmatized hospital is intensified through the view between outside and inside. Particularly in regard to the long term patients, great value was set in the interior development which guarantees a high quality of stay.
