Transforming an office floor without a street‑level storefront into a physiotherapy clinic with its own identity is not a simple commission. A renovation from the nineties had left behind an orange linoleum floor and a black‑painted technical structure that completely conditioned the perception of the space. The challenge was to create a clinic capable of conveying the same calm and carefully crafted identity that characterises the rest of EstudioFisio’s centres.
Even so, the property retained a valuable starting point seven balconies facing the street that provided an unusual amount of natural light for a clinic of this kind. Design Blob took this condition as the basis for reorganising the layout and building a bright, warm and welcoming atmosphere, where light becomes the main guiding thread of the intervention.
The project sought to recover the potential of the space without resorting to radical transformations. The layout is organised to take advantage of its relationship with the façade, allowing natural light to accompany both the waiting areas and the treatment rooms. This condition helps generate a sense of spaciousness and wellbeing that distances the whole from the more conventional image of healthcare environments.
Materiality reinforces this pursuit of calm. A herringbone wooden floor runs throughout the plan, providing visual continuity, while a palette dominated by beige, off‑white and light woods creates a serene and balanced atmosphere. The integrated mouldings introduce a discreet reference to the building’s original character, establishing a subtle dialogue with contemporary elements such as the interior carpentry, technical lighting and clean‑lined furniture.
In the treatment rooms, textile curtains filter the light from the balconies and allow the degree of privacy to be adjusted according to the needs of each session. The result is a series of quiet, welcoming spaces where clinical functionality coexists with an aesthetic closer to wellbeing and comfort than to the usual codes of the healthcare sector.
One of the project’s main challenges was achieving this transformation while retaining part of the existing elements and working within a contained budget. Rather than completely concealing the pre‑existing conditions, the intervention incorporates them into a new reading of the space, demonstrating how a precise approach can profoundly alter the perception of a place.
The result is a bright and serene clinic in which architecture and interior design work in service of the user experience. A space conceived to support the therapeutic process through calm, comfort and trust, ensuring that both patients and professionals feel at ease from the very first moment.
