ClosetMaid®, the worldwide leader in home storage and organization, was chosen by the owners of San Diego’s COMM22 to provide custom wire closet systems for a total of 336 total family and senior-living affordable apartments. The grand opening took place on May 8, 2015.
COMM22, located on the southeast corner of Commercial Street and 22nd Street, is a mixed-use, mixed-income development created to build a stronger, more vibrant community. ClosetMaid systems were installed in the new units at the owner’s request using 45-degree angle brackets and a ‘beefed-up’ structure. Chris Evans, Division Manager at VBI Doors, the installer of the closet systems, came up with the idea to incorporate the new TotalSlide® Pro detachable continuous-sliding hanging rods into the wire system spaces.
“We leaned on ClosetMaid’s support throughout the installation process, especially for tutorials on their new TotalSlide® Pro product,” says Evans. “As a result, installation was seamless and all 336 units are holding up very well.”
The ClosetMaid wire systems were specified for all of the apartments at COMM22—256 two-and-three-bedroom units, and 80 one-bedroom units. TotalSlide® Pro was included in every installation.
The one-piece, continuous-slide hang system of TotalSlide® Pro attached easily to the wire shelving of each unit. The enhanced coating on each durable steel hanger allows for effortless gliding and offers residences both performance and aesthetics.
The master-planned site of COMM22 was co-developed by BRIDGE Housing and MAAC, in partnership with San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). The development lies on a four-acre, former SDUSD maintenance facility site.
