COMO, well-being, craftsmanship and the art of hair cutting are at the heart of the experience. More than a barbershop, COMO is a place for gathering and connection, where conversation and community take center stage. An approach to barbering that goes beyond the service itself, transforming the salon into a genuine social space.
Located on Saint-Vallier Street, in one of Québec City’s rapidly evolving neighbourhoods, the project occupies a former law office, now home to COMO’s relocated barbershop. With direct street access and a strong connection to the community, the space offered several architectural features, including abundant natural light, varying floor levels and a layout suited to the client’s needs. Its transformation gives the space a new purpose while maintaining COMO’s presence in the neighbourhood.
Upon entering, visitors are welcomed by a lounge area that sets the tone for the project. A sofa and a deep green curtain create a soft separation between the lobby and the main space. The payment counter reinterprets traditional barbershop conventions through a sculptural approach, complemented by two CARA light fixtures. At the heart of the space, three central wall structures accommodate barber stations on either side, encouraging interaction and exchange. A recessed alcove at the back discreetly houses the shampoo station.
The concept revolves around a palette of layered greens. The ceiling, structural elements and station walls feature a chartreuse green with yellow undertones, contrasted by a blue-toned forest green in the reception area. At the rear, a composition of burgundy and dusty rose creates a distinctive vignette that references the client’s former salon. Raw, reflective materials, including chrome and unfinished stainless steel, add an industrial and contemporary edge. The interplay of bold colours, textures and metallic finishes creates an expressive environment that feels both warm and audacious.
