Salon Volta establishes itself as a barbershop that reinterprets established standards, placing care, creativity, and exchange at the heart of the experience. More than a place for cutting and shaving, it is conceived as a gathering space designed to encourage encounters, dialogue, and the expression of craftsmanship. Driven by a contemporary vision of the profession, Salon Volta cultivates a strong identity that goes beyond the salon’s primary function to become a true place of life and community.

The project is located in Laval, within a space that deliberately distances itself from the traditional aesthetics often associated with this type of establishment. The architectural envelope—intentionally dark, mineral, and sterile—creates an almost cavernous atmosphere. This context generates a strong contrast with areas dedicated to interaction, reinforcing the spatial reading and the singular character of the space.

The layout is based on a complete reconfiguration of conventional codes. Rather than lining workstations along the walls, the designer proposes a concept of central stations positioned at the heart of the space. Custom-made by a cabinetmaker, these butter-yellow stations assert themselves as sculptural blocks and become the true pivots of the salon. Their placement encourages fluidity, exchange, and collaboration, while creating an imposing yet communal atmosphere, in deliberate contrast with the enveloping coolness of the surrounding space.

Materiality supports this intention through a raw and restrained palette. Lime washed walls, a matte epoxy floor, and brushed aluminum furniture form a stripped-back, almost sterile envelope that highlights the precision of the gesture and the art of the barber. Inspired by natural materials—particularly stone—the project’s guiding thread celebrates the rawness and authenticity of matter, asserting an aesthetic that is bold, rigorous, and timeless.
