Located in the heart of Munich’s city center, at Dienerstraße 12, a daytime café with coffee service has been created, uniquely combining craftsmanship, materiality, and atmosphere. The new Dallmayr Coffee Club represents a modern, urban place for exchange. Defined by meticulous attention to detail, a clear design language, and the ambition to merge tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
The starting point was an existing space of only 30 m², which was completely stripped back and reimagined in its spatial structure. Through precise planning, a consistently well-considered transformation, and the courage to rethink the space, an area of 53 m² was created that conveys openness and generosity. In close collaboration with the clients, a design emerged that unites functionality, aesthetic ambition, and brand identity at the highest level.
At the heart of the space is an asymmetrically rounded counter made of light natural stone, a central element that welcomes and guides the visitor. Like a sculptural object, it stands within the room, defining it as a place of encounter and communication. Its soft, flowing geometry contrasts with the clarity of the surrounding forms. The counter front is framed by a base of burnished brass, whose warm sheen gently offsets the mass of the stone and seamlessly connects it to the floor.
The wall design echoes this material palette: milled natural stone cladding, finely plastered surfaces, and subtle gradients create a dynamic interplay of textures and light reflections. The color scheme is bright and natural, almost white across walls and ceiling, complemented by soft stone and earthy tones. The terrazzo floor references, in both color and character, the historic stone flooring of the original Dallmayr flagship store, consciously linking the project to the company’s heritage. Together, these elements create a space that radiates a remarkable sense of calm and timelessness.
A key motif of the design is the treatment of spatial depth and light. The characteristic arches of the adjacent facade are reinterpreted within the interior as a formal reference. Rendered in mirrored surfaces, they expand the perception of space, introduce movement, dissolve boundaries, and lend the room an almost sculptural dimension. The lighting concept was developed with great care: Apparatus luminaires from New York provide precise accents and give the space a cosmopolitan character. Complementing this, a mirrored ceiling subtly reflects light and visually opens the space upwards, blurring its boundaries and creating a sense of lightness and suspension.
The interior concept is completed by precisely crafted built-in elements made of regionally sourced elm wood. These provide storage, structure, and a warm, natural counterpoint to the otherwise restrained material palette. In addition to visual design, acoustics also play a central role: a high-quality sound system has been integrated, allowing the space to be adapted for events and gatherings. As a result, the café functions as a meeting place during the day and transforms into an atmospheric venue in the evening.
The result is a space that balances lightness and precision. A place designed not only for enjoying coffee, but for pausing and reflecting. The interplay of natural stone, brass, wood, mirror, and light creates a sensory experience that expresses both the high standard of craftsmanship and the distinctive identity of Dallmayr. The Dallmayr Coffee Club is therefore more than a retail space: it is a statement of contemporary interior design in an urban context. this place brings together history, craftsmanship, and modernity in a precise and harmonious balance.
