“RESPECT” is an important starting point for us in an architectural project.
To be 'with respect to the Existing Structure, Nature and the Stone Houses Around' in the Damda Project.Because we had an architectural texture from the past and our tastes at the same time…We wanted a modern building. We wanted to design a 'Modern Shelter' for ourselves in nature. We processed and combined the local and the modern as if making a delicious meal, as if sewing a jacket.
The climate (Season) shaped the moss and colors on the stone, and we were making choices from those colors.
We wanted to reuse the nearly 100-year-old stones and ceiling woods of the building, and we were making the necessary improvements.
We have taken care to design them in their safest and most natural form.
The landscape stood in front of us in an idyllic way, we were determining the size and shape of the window in order to take it into the house.
We placed the windows at right angles to watch the goats running through the small narrow paths around the house.
We made rips in the ceiling to watch the bright stars.We brought nature into the house.Now we were in nature when we were outside and inside the house...
I mentioned that our starting point was 'STONE'. It had so much experience and a character unique to this place that we could not use a material to prevent it. Every material we used should prioritize stone and be in harmony with it.
Therefore;
We applied the most suitable 'microcement' floor covering to the stone texture on the floors.
Most of the walls are stone. We left a few walls white to create the right interior architectural spaces.
Steel was the only material that we could use without alternatives to make the staircase connecting the floors look like it didn't exist. In this way, we established a structure as if it were flying in the air.
We have chosen the oak tree most suitable for the texture of the house for wooden furniture.
In the kitchen, the cabinet surfaces should not create a texture and should not come to the fore. We wanted to watch the stone wall and olive branch inlaid stonework behind it like a painting and we made the cabinets lacquered. The kitchen countertop was applied as a 'microcement' from the same material as the floor and a unity was achieved.
In order to accompany this simplicity in the kitchen and at the same time create a harmonious contrast, we made the legs of the dining table from the 'Loğ Stone' used on the roof of the existing building and the existing old woods, and we made the top of this large table from a single piece of stainless plate.
The woods on the ceiling, the original woods of the old house, are about 100 years old. We also made necessary revisions and used them again.
In general color selections, we proceeded from 'earth tones' and avoided all details and textures that could tire the eyes.
Especially in the winter months, since the weather is harsh and we want to let the daylight in more, our window openings are quite large, so we could get more of the view and the light inside.
