At Kampeerterrein Stortemelk, where about 200 employees work during the summer months, the staff building "De Nulck" plays a central role. Despite years of decay, this building holds a special place in the hearts of the staff. STUDIO BRANDVRIES & Atelier Boekhout have taken on the challenge of designing an entirely new Nulck. This building serves as an essential hub for the summer staff, with extensive shower and toilet facilities and a professional catering kitchen. Additionally, it offers various two to four-person bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. During the winter months when the seasonal staff departs, De Nulck can be rented out as a group accommodation.
To prevent this building from appearing too colossal on the campsite and to seamlessly integrate it into the landscape, the designers have chosen an innovative approach. They have designed a heavy concrete base that can sink into the dune. On the forest side, it features a large terrace with a canopy for protection against the elements. Above ground level, the bedrooms are located in a wooden structure with windows in recessed niches for privacy, giving the facade an intriguing appearance with a sloping roofline.
The interior is designed to be 'hufterproof' (durable) and perfectly aligns with the youthful and fresh look that suits the users. With bold color blocks and striking graphics, as well as clever acoustic solutions, it offers a comfortable environment for up to 120 people. De Nulck is not only a practical space but also an attractive and functional addition to Kampeerterrein Stortemelk, benefiting both the staff and guests.
