Introduction
Domes Novos Santorini is a hospitality project that seeks to blend contemporary architecture with the heritage and memories of Santorini. Located at the northern tip of the island, the hotel offers a unique accommodation experience that reflects both the aesthetic and cultural identity of its setting.
Location and Geomorphology
Situated 500 meters from the traditional settlement of Oia and only 300 meters from the sea, Domes Novos Santorini enjoys uninterrupted views of the Aegean Sea and the nearby islands of Ios, Sikinos, and Folegandros.
The 17,093.17 m² site features gentle slopes and rocky formations, presenting an architectural challenge in the integration of the building into the natural landscape.
This geomorphology became a fundamental design parameter. The architectural team followed the natural curves of the terrain, ensuring the structures blend harmoniously with the environment without disturbing the natural balance of the location. At the same time, the design aims to evoke a sense of calm and serenity.
Architectural Design
The architectural composition is defined by simplicity and elegance. All buildings are ground-level, minimizing visual impact on the landscape and offering guests immediate access to the outdoor areas. This approach is not only aesthetic but also functional, allowing visitors to enjoy stunning sea views from every point.
The geometry of the volumes and the clean lines create a sense of symmetry and harmony that enhances the overall ambiance. Strategic positioning and carefully considered angles frame unique vistas of both the natural surroundings and the architectural forms themselves. The sharp, prismatic shapes of the buildings echo the distinctive volcanic landscape of Santorini.
Materials and Colors
Material selection reflects local tradition and natural availability. A red-ochre tinted plaster is used for the exterior surfaces, providing an earthy character that aligns with the island’s natural palette. This choice is both aesthetic and practical, ensuring durability against the island’s intense weather conditions.
Interior and exterior accents in soft white and ash-grey tones elevate the elegance of the spaces and create a refined visual balance.
Lighting and Atmosphere
Lighting plays a central role in the architectural concept. Fixtures are positioned to highlight both the built forms and the surrounding landscape while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Natural light is equally important, with large openings and expansive glazing allowing sunlight to flood the interiors.
Access and Accessibility
Accessibility is a key priority at Domes Novos Santorini. All communal areas—including the restaurant, spa, and reception—are designed to be fully accessible to guests with mobility challenges. Dedicated pathways and parking spaces ensure that all visitors can enjoy the hotel’s facilities without limitations.
Circulation routes across the property have been designed to enable comfortable movement throughout every corner of the site.
Landscape and Planting
Landscape design has been approached with great care. Low-height vegetation ensures unobstructed views towards the sea and the surrounding scenery. Aromatic plants native to Santorini were selected not only for their visual quality but also for their resilience to the island’s demanding climatic conditions.
