The Dow Diamond and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) Centre, developed in close collaboration with York Construction, redefine workplace standards for Dow’s Fort Saskatchewan site. Anchoring opposite corners of a 25-acre industrial campus, the complementary buildings form a cohesive architectural gateway supporting a major expansion of the brownfield complex, which has been in operation since 1961. Together, they establish a coordinated administrative and industrial hub aligned with Dow’s long-term decarbonization ambitions.
The Diamond Centre translates Dow’s iconic logo into built form. Its geometrical massing, composed of precast concrete and glass curtain walls, creates a bold silhouette that resonates at ground level and from the air. The building’s angular composition juxtaposes the relationship between the earth and Alberta’s big prairie skies.
Designed to accommodate up to 200 staff members, the activity-based layout balances focused work with collaboration. The ground floor prioritizes connection and exchange, framing a series of shared amenities including a sunlit auditorium, fitness studio, canteen, and a central community hub. An outdoor terrace extends gathering spaces into the warmer seasons. The upper level introduces a quieter atmosphere, with open and enclosed workstations, training rooms, offices, and dedicated quiet areas that support concentration and flexibility.
Across both floors, interior design strategies reinforce the architectural concept. Sightlines evoke the horizon, while calm, monochromatic palettes are articulated through durable materials, tilework, and acoustic panels. Strategic accents of Dow’s signature red provide intuitive wayfinding and visual identity.
Complementing the Diamond Centre, the 145,000-square-foot MRO facility provides specialized storage and operational infrastructure, including crane bays, vertical lift modules, and dedicated turnaround areas. Barrier-free connections enable seamless movement between the two structures, allowing administrative and operational functions to work in tandem.
Guided by carbon-conscious principles, the campus supports Dow’s vision for a future net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives facility. The Diamond and MRO Centres respond to regional economic growth while demonstrating how industrial expansion can be paired with environmental responsibility, employee wellbeing, and architectural clarity.
