An architecture where memory takes shape-silent, enduring, and open to all

The proposal is conceived as a spatial narrative of openness, dignity, and collective memory, honoring Ibrahim Rugova and his legacy of peaceful resistance. It balances monumentality with accessibility, embedding the memorial within a continuous public landscape that invites reflection, movement, and everyday use.

At its core, the project is defined by a subtle yet powerful gesture: the placement of Rugova's grave at a lower level, beneath the main volume. This descent creates a gradual transition from the openness of the park to a more intimate and contemplative space, guided by a gentle ramp that reinforces both humility and clarity.

Above, a light and transparent structure hovers as a protective canopy. Natural light shapes the experience-most notably through a circular oculus that brings daylight directly onto the grave, creating a symbolic connection between sky and memory, while peripheral openings provide soft, diffused light and ventilation.

The Presidential Library extends this idea of openness, functioning as a civic and intellectual platform with flexible spaces for reading, exhibitions, and dialogue. Its transparent edges and open courtyards dissolve the boundary between building and landscape.

The surrounding park is organized into interconnected zones-water features, open gathering spaces, green areas, and a quieter forested section-supporting both social activity and reflection, while native vegetation reinforces a strong sense of place.

Rather than relying on overt symbolism, the project communicates through spatial experience-descent, light, and openness-envisioning a living civic landscape where memory is not only preserved, but continuously lived.
