The client requested a unique Asian restaurant in Dubai, blending authenticity with hyper-modern elements. They wanted to incorporate traditional Asian elements while infusing the space with a contemporary feel. This project aimed to strike a balance between audacity and restraint, aiming to create an unforgettable dining experience while avoiding overwhelming the guests. The fusion of seemingly incompatible styles, departing from the conventional Japanese restaurant archetype, required careful execution through artistic design choices.

The restaurant's design concept draws inspiration from its name, "Dragonfly," as well as the play on words with "dragon" and "fly." It embraces the symbolism of dragonflies while infusing elements of flight and Eastern culture.

Situated within a typical Dubai glass structure, the Dragonfly restaurant interior evokes the ambiance of an Eastern temple, featuring wooden columns and intricately carved roofs. The space spans two levels: a mezzanine with a grand staircase leading to the second floor, where a DJ booth overlooks a more lounge-style seating area. Beneath this seating area lies an open kitchen, providing diners with a view of the culinary processes. Additionally, there is a spacious terrace for outdoor dining.

The centerpiece is a 360-degree bar crafted from red glass, with a giant dragonfly suspended above it, boasting a wingspan of approximately 9 meters. The columns, with their stone bases made of granite, exude a natural and realistic feel. Wooden elements, especially the veneer, are sourced directly from Italy. The wooden columns also incorporate elements of temple architecture, adorned with carved dragons.
